Dear Sir or Madam

THE CHURCHILL MUSIC.

On February 12th 2004 the secretary sent to Library of Congress, CDs of Radio Prague and Czeske TV's gala performance of THE CHURCHILL MUSIC by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladmir Valek, complete with reviews, for we thought it might interest the USA public visiting the library's Churchill Exhibition. We also included CDs of Churchill's war time speeches.

We are very surprised that to date we have had not even had an acknowledgement and the committee have asked me to write you and enquire why.

Yours sincerely.

Pamela Timms (Mrs).

Acting Chairman.

We shall page his reply when it has been received.

Dear Sir or Madam

I write on behalf of the committee to say how very disappointed - indeed surprised that the enclosed copy letter has never received an acknowledgement or reply and am instructed to write to you to enquire why.

Next year is the 60th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War and the society is anxious that

THE CHURCHILL MUSIC.

Performed by Radio Prague and Czeske TV and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Valek

and already broadcast in Prague three times, is performed in the USA on

Churchill's Birthday 30th November

Please visit:-

and follow the LINKS.

The work has never been performed in either the UK or the USA. The reasons for this are as unknown here in the UK as they are in the USA in spite of years of trying to get a performance in both countries. The composer has chronic heart failure and can no longer carry on the struggle to get the work performed.

We do most sincerely hope you will pay the society the courtesy of a reply.

If you are interested in helping I will send you another CD of the work.

Yours sincerely

Dalton Newfield writes in an article published in the USA re the sordid history (and inevitable failure) of the Churchill family's promotion of the fantastically expensive The Collected Works in 1974.

"I am more than a little surprised that the Churchill family gave their support to this money-grubbing project".

"It would be wonderful to own such a work".

"It would be wonderful if my - or even any US library - could own the set, let alone risk using it".

"It would be wonderful if greed were not always the family's motive".

"WSC was not unconscious of money - quite the contrary - but he did put out abridgements, cheap editions, etc., so that people at all levels could enjoy his works".

"What pains most is that the idea was all so un Churchillian", Mr Newfield concluded.
